Obituary – Eva Carstensen

LAUREL — Eva Carstensen, 94, Laurel, died Dec. 14, 2011, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.
Memorial Vistation was Dec. 17 at United Lutheran Church, Laurel, until service time.
Services were Dec. 17 at United Lutheran Church, Laurel, with Rev. Marc Rakow officiating.

Pallbearers were Todd Erwin, Chris Rutledge, Cody Carstensen, Greg Miller,      Chip Kramer, Scott Carpenter, Dennis Van Fossen, Curt Van Fossen, Roger Van Fossen and David Lebbin.
A private family interment took place at the Laurel Cemetery, Laurel.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel.
Eva Margaret Carstensen was born Jan. 21, 1917, at McCook, to Louis and Clara May (Simmerman) Meissner.  She attended school and graduated from McCook High School in 1935.  Eva married Otto Carstensen Nov. 18, 1936, in Oberlin, Kan.  She worked in the ship yards at Portland, Ore., when Otto was in the service. The couple went to Edmonton, Canada, for two years. Eva did custodial maintenance and worked at Lockhead Commissary Cafeteria during World War II. Following the war the couple moved to a farm north of Laurel, in Dixon County, and into Laurel in 1972, where Eva worked at the Corner Cafe for 10 years.
She was a member of United Lutheran Church and Women’s Missionary Federation.
Eva enjoyed reading and visits from her grandchildren.
Eva is survived by her children, David and wife, Leanne Carstensen, Laurel; Susan Lebbin, Calfin, Kan.; and Tracey Teboe, Elk Point S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto, in 1975; daughter, Cathy Patsios, in 2000; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, one brother and one sister.
Memorials are to be designated at a later date.
