NORTON — Lila Jean (Mapes) Fisher, 81, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, in Norton. She was born Feb. 22, 1934, to Elmer and Ada (Burham) Mapes in McCook, Neb., at the home of her fraternal grandparents.

Lila attended grade school and graduated from McCook High School in 1952. She married Harold Dean Fisher on June 2, 1951, in McCook, where they lived for one year. They also live in Thedford, Neb., and Danbury, Neb., before settling in Norton in 1954.

Four children were born into the marriage, Kitty, Patty, Tony and Terri.

Lila enjoyed sharing many hobbies with Harold, including hunting, fishing, trapping and bowling. She also loved spending time with the family and going to events involving her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

Lila was baptized and joined First United Methodist Church on Feb. 19, 1995, and was an active member of the church, holding several committee positions until her death. She was a member of UMW and held offices in Circle and UMW. She was a thrift shop volunteer, was active in the Golden Glow Club with the Senior Center, volunteered with C.A.R.E., and also sung in the choir.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill Mapes; her husband, Harold; a daughter, Kitty Greenwood; a grandson, Cole Gutzman; and a great-granddaughter, LaNeesha Lane.

Survivors include: one brother, Eldon "Chub" (Marcia) Mapes, of North Platte, Neb.; daughter, Patty Fisher, of Norton; son, Tony (Becki) Fisher, of Scandia; daughter, Terri (Duane) Mercer, of Cozad, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren, eight bonus grandchildren; and 16 bonus great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Norton, with inurnment following in Norton Cemetery.
