Dr. Eldon L. Schafer,
was born to John Schafer and Amelia Eckhardt Schafer on January 31, 1932 in Red Willow County, Nebraska. He died on December 31, 2015 in Tucson, Arizona, where he had lived for over 25 years. Eldon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, JoAnn, and by his brothers, Richard, Dallas, and Larry, and his sister, Norma. He is survived by sons, Warren (Pat Ashworth) and Karl, and by sister-in-laws, Betty Schafer (Richard), Irene Schafer (Dallas), Connie Schafer Peach (Larry), Lila Springer (Robert), Sharon Albro (Bill), and Bobbi Johnson (Carl Circo), and by several nephews and nieces. Eldon graduated from McCook, Nebraska High School and received his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D (Accounting) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a life-long Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He served for two years in the U.S. Army. He taught Accounting at Syracuse University, University of Washington, Pacific Lutheran University, and the University of Arizona, as well as in international programs in several locations, including New Zealand and China. Eldon authored texts and scholarly articles on Accounting, and he volunteered professional services to several charitable organizations. Eldon and JoAnn traveled extensively and made friends across the globe, and they enjoyed fishing and outdoor recreations, especially at their cabin on Herron Island in Puget Sound, Washington. Among his many volunteer activities were coaching soccer, working with the Boy Scouts of America, serving on the Board of Borderland Theatre in Tucson, assisting with services to the poor and homeless, and helping the Borderlinks organization in Tucson. He was an active member of Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson. Memorial, Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at the church, 317 W. 23rd St., Tucson, AZ, 85713.
